Miracle Noodles Review – Perfect Zero Calorie Noodles For Weight Loss?

Pasta has always been one of my most favorite dishes to whip up and consume after a long hard day of work. Although eating pasta can be quite troublesome due to the starchy carbo-load it contains along with the other requirements needed to make a good pasta, such as sauce, potatoes, bread, rice and so on. When you’re trying to eat healthier and lose fat, pasta can be quite counterproductive and must, unfortunately, let go. But rejoice for recently there has been hype surrounding a type of noodle that supposedly contains zero carbohydrates and have become a fantastic alternative to traditional pasta noodles.

Well, good news pasta lovers there is and while I’m sure most of you are skeptical, I’ve personally come to enjoy these amazing noodles.

What are Miracle Noodles?

Shirataki noodles, or as most have come to call them, Miracle noodles, originates from the land of the rising sun, Japan. They are developed from the Konjac root, also known as White Yam or Devil’s Tongue. They have a gelatinous texture and are a positive source for the dietary fiber glucomannan.

In order to transform them into noodles, the glucomannan fiber must be extracted from the Kojac root mixed with water and lime water. This develops into a gelatinous substance called konnyaku which is then made into either a noodle or rice substance.  The noodles are made up of 97% water and 3% indigestible fiber, making it a zero calorie noodle. Because of this, the noodles were dubbed “Miracle Noodles,” and are completely paleo and calorie-free.

Even so, they have pretty much no taste on their own but have a fishy smell to them when packaged wet. This is mainly due to the water they are packaged in and can be seamlessly rinsed off.

Other varieties of these miracle noodles have included soy or other ingredients so it’s important to read the label before purchasing the noodles and receiving something you may regret. They can be purchased in both wet and dry form and can be used in a variety of dishes in places of the usual wheat-based noodles.


Are these noodles healthy?

I’m sure many of you are thinking that these noodles are too good to be true, but Shirataki Noodles have to manage to live up to their recent increase in hype.


These noodles are high-fiber foods and yet contain absolutely no calories or carbohydrates. The glucomannan fiber within the noodles is a type of soluble fiber. It’s in a similar vein to that of Chia seeds which can also absorb up to 50 times their weight in water.

Great for Weight Loss.

Shirataki made products and other Glucomannan made food are usually recommended for anyone trying to lose some weight. These foods are no-calorie and high-fiber and are recommended for a variety of diets. Tough the fiber itself may be indigestible to humans, it helps to feed a gut bacteria and moves through the guy slowly, leading the person to experience a longer sensation of fullness and satiety.


The Cons of Shirataki Noodles.

The one real potential downside to these miracle noodles containing glucomannan is the short term of digestive discomfort you’ll most likely to experience. While glucomannan is normally considered safe, there are some potential short-term digestive side effects such as bloating and discomfort.


In order to avoid these potential issues,  it’s usually recommended to start taking glucomannan and other similar forms of products slowly and work your way up gradually. Furthermore, because of glucomannan capability to absorb a large quantity of water, care should be taken not to consume it while it’s dry or at least without a sufficient amount of water. Reports of intestinal blockages have appeared due to people consuming large amounts of a dried form of this particular root.


So make sure to not eat shirataki noodles or other such similar foods within a couple of hours of taking either medication or supplements as it made reduce the absorption rate.

How to use Miracle Noodles?

Miracle noodles can be used in a variety of tradition pasta noodles in almost any dish, regardless of them being Italian or Asian recipes. They are virtually tasteless and absorb flavors quite well, making them a perfect addition to soups and pasta dishes.


Most brands come in a wet or pre-hydrated water within the package. While it’s possible to consume them in such a manner, its highly recommended you drain them well and rinse under a fresh water for at least 5 minutes. This will remove that slightly fishy smell that resulted due to the storage of water in the package.  


Achieving the best Texture

To gain the best texture of out these noodles, follow these simple steps:


  • Drain the noodles
  • Rinse under cool water for 1-2 minutes
  • Drop into boiling water for another 1-2 minutes to further soften and improve texture
  • Drain and pat dry and place in a dry skillet over medium heat for at least 5 minutes to dry slightly
  • Add to dishes or add flavors as desired at this point


These noodles are a fantastic source of a gluten-free alternative to regular noodles. While they may need some specific preparation, it does take on flavors quite well. Shirataki Noodles can be great for weight loss and are considered a vegan, paleo, and nutritious alternative compared to other noodle products out there.
